After his many injury travails, followers of Nigerian players' exploits abroad are all happy with the progress Super Eagles winger, Chinedu Obasi, is currently making in the German Bundesliga.

Obasi scored one of Schalke’s goals, his debut this season, in last week’s 4-0 win against his former club, Hoffenheim, taking his current season statistics to 5 games and 1 goal. It is a remarkable feat considering how reccurent shin injury had indeed threatened the talented player’s career.

The joy of it is that Obasi, aside getting back to fitness, has reclaimed his place as the topmost Nigerian football ambassador in Germany, a position once held by Joseph Akpala while with Werder Breman before moving on loan to Turkish side, Karabukspor. It would be recalled that ex-internationals like Jonathan Akpoborie, Austin Okocha, Victor Agali, Gabriel Melkam, Pascal Ojigwe and a few others once flew Nigeria’s flag in the Bundesliga.

Also flying Nigeria’s flag in Germany is fringe Eagles forward, Anthony Ujah, who currently plies his trade with Bundesliga 2 side, FC Koln. Ujah who featured alongside Akpala in the FIFA Confederations Cup last year, currently has 7 goals to his credit in 24 games. Koln are currently top of the second tier league table chat with 47 points and are on course for promotion to the elite division, if they sustain their lead till the end of the season. Ujah will be available as Koln go on the road trip against Kaiserslautern on Monday.

Meanwhile, new Eagles star, Leon Balogun will not be available for Fortuna Dusseldorf’s home tie against St. Pauli. Balogun copped an injury on his international debut against Mexico last week.
