Landmark event: Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un meet for their summit in Singapore

US president Donald Trump met with North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un in Capella resort, an isolated hotel on Sentosa Island in Singapore.

The two leaders shared a historic handshake as they met for the first time at 9am Singaporean time.

The meeting which lasted for 45 minutes kicked off when their translators arrived.

Trump, Kim and their translators first met in a session, before they allowed their respective advisers to join them.

The two leaders came out together after the end of the meeting, with Kim Jong Un smiling from ear to ear. They both waved to journalists, then moved to a different room for an expanded bilateral meeting with their respective advisers. 

President Trump's advisers at the meeting are his Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, his Chief of Staff, John Kelly and Ambassador John Bolton, his National Security adviser.
