Customs confiscates 30 exotic vehicles, rice, others worth N1.bn in 4wks

Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Zone A federal Operations Unit, Garba Uba Mohammed has revealed that, the anti-smuggling unit of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), had impounded 30 exotic vehicles, nine trailers and other with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of over N1.01 billion between April 10 and May 15.

Mohammed also said N28.9 million was recovered from under payment by importers who cleared their goods from the ports.

He listed the items impounded to include seven Toyota Hilux (2018 models), three Toyota Prado Jeep (2017) one Range Rover, one Ford Edge (2015), amongst others.

The CAC noted that 5,516 bags of foreign parboiled rice (equivalent of nine trailers), 1,078 cartons of frozen poultry products, 216 jerry cans of vegetable oil, 683 pieces of used tyres and eight sacks of Indian Hemp were also seized.
