NIGERIA (Osun)— A 27-year-old man, Akeeb Ibrahim., has been ordered to remain in Ilesa prison by an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court following an allegation that he raped a two-year-old girl.

It was gathered that the charge sheet read in court indicated that Ibrahim lured the girl into his room at about 1.00 p.m. when her parents had left for their shops at his house located at Isale‑Afo area of Ikirun, headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun state before raping her.

The Police prosecutor, Inspector Abiodun Fagboyinbo, told the court that the accused unlawfully had carnal knowledge of the girl and this contradicts Section 218 and 222 of the criminal code, cap 34 vol 11, laws of Osun State, Nigeria 2003 and 2007 respectively.

The accused person, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of rape and assault levelled against him.

In his ruling, Magistrate Olusola Aluko turned down the oral application of the counsel to the accused person, Mr. Amaechi Ngwu, who had appealed that his client should be granted bail and ordered him to be remanded in Ilesa prison custody pending a formal application by his counsel.

He adjourned the case till March 3, 2014 for mention.
