THE President, Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, warned tanker drivers against roadside parking saying this is the major cause of highway congestion.
He gave the warning in Abuja at a one- day public enlightenment on the development in the road sector to address issues regarding weighbridges, signages and the return of toll gates in the country.
The President who spoke with the Secretary-General of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha, stressed the importance of road transportation to the economic development said his administration has prioritized development of infrastructure in the country.
He said this was backed, with a rise in the budgetary allocation for capital projects from the initial 15 percent to 30 percent, with an increased target on infrastructure.
“This is a testimony of the important role which road transportation plays in the economic development of our country. It is on record that this administration has raised the annual budgetary commitment for the capital project from 15 percent to a minimum of 30 percent with an increased target on infrastructure.
“The result is the revival of construction activities of highway projects nationwide. From 2015 up till date, my administration has constructed and rehabilitated several hundred kilometres of interstate federal roads and bridges with ease of movement of people, goods and services,” he said.
However, he underscored the need for a change in attitude on the part of all stakeholders, adding that only then will the country be able to get value for its investments.
His words:“……in order to gain the full benefits of these projects, and get value for investment after these projects have been completed we must change our ways.
