Gunmen abduct Kano government official and demand N20m as ransom

A top official of Kano state Universal Basic Eductaion Board (SUBEB) Alhaji Uba Muhammad Kano has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

Alh. Uba Muhammad who is the Secretary of Kano state SUBEB was whisked away by unknown persons at gunpoint in the early hours of Saturday at his Shiye village, Bunkure local government area of Kano state.

A family member who pleaded anonymity said his brother has been in captivity since last weekend.

The family source further disclosed that the abductors have demanded a ransom of N20m to set him free.

He said the case has been reported to the police, as he added that concern authorities are responding to the demand. “It was shocking news on Saturday when the development was reported to the board. He was kidnapped at his village where, he mostly, spends his weekend. We were told by the family that some people invaded the family house with guns and took him away. We have already reported the case to the government and relevant security apparatus and we hope the man will be rescued soonest”. Family source noted.

When contacted on phone, Police Public Relations Officer, DSP. Magaji Musa Majia confirmed the development, as he assured the police commitment to rescue the victim alive.

Reacting to the demand of N20m ransom, Majia said the police was informed by the family member who came to lodge the complaint.
