The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Oyo State have expressed their willingness to contest the forthcoming local government election in the state if the State Independent Electoral Commission, OSIEC and the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, APC will provide equal level playing ground for all the participating political parties in the election.

This statement was made by the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Oyo State, Alhaji Omokunmi Mustafa while fielding question from CEOAFRICA reporter at the party's secretariat. Alhaji Mustafa stated that the body language of OSIEC has not in any way suggests that the poll will be free and fair.

The party chairman who noted that the PDP has posed some questions to OSIEC concerning the modalities surrounding the conduct of the election in the state, said the party is yet to get any positive response to the questions it raised before OSIEC.

''We can't say we are not contesting election. We are contesting if the arrangement is solid. But to me personally, from what is happening now I don't think the ruling party is ready to conduct a free and fair election.''

Alhaji Mustafa went further to say that '' we are yet to decide because we put some questions to them and they have not answered us. As of today, they are yet to answer our questions which we put to them since they said they want to conduct the local government election''

Transparency International TI report

On the latest report by Transparency International, TI on the deteriorating level of corruption in Nigeria under the present administration, the PDP chairman stated that he has always developed that firm conviction within him that the present administration is not fighting corruption. Rather, it has engaged in witch hunting members of the opposition whom they see as threats to their future aspirations.

Alhaji Mustafa accused the present administration of fighting the opposition in a bid to silence them during elections. The PDP chairman who lampooned the APC led federal government of bringing untold hardship on the citizens accused them of mass corruption on daily basis.

''The present administration is not fighting corruption. They just want to use that as a basis of their rigging plan, to intimidate our leaders, to frustrate them so that they may not have time in the forthcoming election in 2019. They want to put as many PDP members as possible in prison. They want to torment them, harass them so that they will not even have interest in doing anything with this coming election. That is their plan.''

No aggrieved members in Oyo PDP

In another development, the Oyo State PDP chairman, Alhaji Omokunmi Mustafa has dismissed as ridiculous the statement in some quarters that a list of new executive has been harmonised in Oyo State PDP to please some aggrieved members of the party in the state.

Alhaji Mustafa who argued that there was never aggrieved members in Oyo State PDP stated that positions into the new leadership of the party in the state was evenly distributed among the five major political parties that formed the present PDP in Oyo State. He therefore wondered why some people will claim to be aggrieved on the basis of the state excos which according to him was approved by the National Executive Council, NEC of PDP.

''Nobody is aggrieved. Anybody that is aggrieved should have come up before the approval of the excos by the NEC of our party. But there is nobody that has not got any position. We shared these things on the platform of political parties not on the platform of groups. We have five political parties that came together to form the present PDP. So who is aggrieved?'' he asked.
