The Catholic Bishop of Ibadan Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev. Emmanuel Adetoyese Badejo has lent his support to the visit of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria( CBCN), to President Muhammadu Buhari stating that they visited the President to convey to him what the ordinary man in the street is saying about his government.

The cleric who made this statement in Ibadan during the launching of the books ';;';;A Catechism on Marriage and the Family: The teaching of the Catholic Church';;';; and ';;';;A Catechism on Human Life from Conception to Natural Death';;';; stated that the essence of government is to listen to the needs of the masses.

The Catholic Bishop noted that most of the points raised by the catholic bishops were not invented by them saying that all they told the President were the reality on ground in respect to the needs of the ordinary man on the street.

Most Rev. Badejo further said that the visit of the Bishops to the President was carried out as a major influencer in 2019 general elections noting that it is now left for the government to look into the hard but obvious and honest points that were raised by the Catholic Bishops.

According to him, ';;';;The Bishops certainly did it in order to be a major influencer. A lot will depend on whether government is prepared to take the very hard but obvious and honest points that have been raised by the bishops. And let me say that most of the points that were raised by the catholic bishops are not things they invented themselves';;';;.

';;';;We have sent to the President the things that the ordinary man in the street is saying and the needs of ordinary Nigerian. And I think that is the purpose of government otherwise government is not needed if it does not respond to the man on the street and the needs that he has.';;';;

On the message of the church to the government on how to stop the incessant killing of innocent Nigerians by rampaging Fulan herdsmen, Most Rev. Adetoyese Badejo stated that the government must go back to the complete respect of the dignity and the sanctity of human life.

He further noted that the government must strive hard not to favour anybody, institution or personality at the expense of human life saying that the blood of the innocent always cry for vegeance which may end up destabilizing the nation. He called on government to be proactive in its resolve to protect the dignity and sanctity of human life since the basic duty of government is to protect life.

While responding to question on the stand of the church in several cases of divorce in the country, the man of God advised Nigerians to be careful with the practice of what is being sent to the country from abroad saying that most of those things do not align with our culture and that they have the capacity to demean our cultural heritage in Africa.

Most Rev. Badejo, who observed that the message from Western world has basterdized our traditional marriage institution, charged the government to invest in the nation';;s traditional family and the promotion of religious values so as to put an end to countless manners of waywardness and social vices that have characterized the nation, Nigeria.
