The Independent National Electoral Commissioner, INEC, has set up a committee to probe the underage voting in Kano state. Recall that last week, the local government election in Kano witnessed so many underaged voters. The electoral officials alleged that they could do nothing about it because the residents of the area had threatened to attack them if the underaged persons were not allowed to participate in the election.

The chairman of the electoral body, Mahmoud Yakubu, has however come out to state that the allegation will be thoroughly investigated. Yakubu disclosed this at a workshop in Lagos today February 16th.

“We wish to assure Nigerians that the matter will be fully investigated. A national commissioner will lead a team including technical staff drawn from voter registry, ICT and electoral operations departments for an immediate and comprehensive investigation. We will share the findings with Nigerians.” he said
