The weekly Chrisland University Assembly has been described as a programme designed to stimulate both staff and students of the institution to excel in life endeavors.
This was made known by the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. [Mrs] Chinedum Peace Babalola during an interview with CEOAfrica in her office. According to Prof. Chinedum, the assembly is a fellowship of teaching staff, non-teaching staff and students who gathers on weekly basis to praise God, pray and listen to motivational talks that prepares their minds to pursue academic excellence and moral.
The Vice Chancellor went further to say that the assembly which holds every Wednesday of the week is compulsory for staff and students. She explained that, the mandatory attendance stems from the conviction of the school management shows that the program is highly beneficial to all.
According to Prof. Chinedum, the motivational talks on time management, study habit and pathway to excellence discussed in this Wednesday weekly programme has been assigned to lecturers in the school.
“The familiarity among staff and students as well as the interactive opportunity the programme offers is another main reason for the establishment of the university assembly. The weekly programme is another ample opportunity for the students to get themselves abreast with information the school authority is churning out”, she said.
On the steps taking by the school to ensure adherence to the programme, the University of Ibadan first female pharmacist professor said that, “one of the steps taking by the school management for outright compliance is to make attendance compulsory for the students. Also, the school is planning to reward punctual students while defaulters would be sanctioned.”
The Vice Chancellor explained that, the school is putting in place more impactful programmes which include inviting motivational speakers to talk to the students, participating in inter university debate, setting up entrepreneurial unit, promoting and enhancing sport activities among others. Also, in an effort to ensure all round participation, the school management has asked the students to come up with programmes they believe will be of massive benefits to them.
The Chrisland University Vice Chancellor concluded that, the school has successfully set up the counselling unit which is aimed at solving the psychological problems the students may likely face. In addition to that, staff advisers have been appointed by the school for students across different levels, the school has made it mandatory for every student to have a staff adviser within the department, thus bridging the gap between the lecturers and the students.
