Osun state begins search for Aregbesola’s successor

The Osun West Peoples Assembly (OWEPA) pressure group has urged the senatorial district to be resolute and focused on its bid to produce the successor of Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

Planning ahead of the governorship election scheduled to hold in September 22, National Coordinator OWEPA, Mr. Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman, urged the lawmaker representing the district in the National Assembly, Senator Ademola Adeleke to disregard those urging him to contest the governorship.

Mr Sulaiman said in the interest of justice, fair play and equity, Osun West should be allowed to produce Aregbesola’s successor. Speaking after a meeting with few youths recently, Sulaiman appealed to Senator Adeleke to work round the clock by ensuring that the district presents credible and generally acceptable governorship candidate for the next governorship election and that he should shun those he referred to as selfish politicians, who are mounting pressure on him to declare intent for the race.

On the way forward, the group urged political leaders and gladiators from the district to close ranks in their various parties to ensure that candidates from district emerge from their parties as flag bearers.

Sulaiman urged the people of the district to learn from recently conducted National Convention of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where Southwest failed to produce the national chairman owing to bickering and lack of unity to present a consensus candidate.

“We wish to assure the good people of Osun State, especially, Osun West Senatorial district that the district woul produce the next governor in the interest of justice, equity and fairness with political equation, he added

“As a group, we are ready to work with other concern stakeholders to ensure the emergence of credible and generally acceptable candidate for the plum job from the Senatorial district. We are using this medium to reiterate our appeal to Senator Adeleke to ignore the call of some selfish politicians, who are mounting pressure on him to declare intention to vie for 2018 guber race.”
