The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have sent a congratulatory message to former FIFA, European and African Footballer of the Year George Weah for emerging President of Liberia, Even when results of Tuesday’s election have not been announced.

Though the official announcement has not been made by the Liberian Electoral Commission, reports from not-so-credible outlets have claimed that the former Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Chelsea striker swept 13 out of the 15 counties with his 73-year-old opponent Joseph Boakai getting just two counties.

The LEC announced on Tuesday that they would commence the collation of results on Wednesday and they might not make an official announcement until later in the day.

Following a series of messages on Twitter on Wednesday congratulating Weah, 51, on his purported victory, CAF wrote on their verified handle: “Congratulations George Weah! Former Ballon D’or winner & Current President of Liberia.”

Weah’s first shot at the presidency was in 2005 where he lost to Johnson Sirleaf in the run-off.

He captained the Liberian side that lost the 2002 World Cup ticket to the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Also, he was part of the Liberian side that lost 1-0 to the Super Eagles in the group stage of the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations in Mali.
