NIGERIA (Plateau) –Barely few months after the demise of prominent Plateau State politician, Solomon Lar, tragedy has struck the political arena of the state again as the death of former deputy governor of the state, Chief Michael Botmang, was announced on Saturday.

Aged 76, Botmang was the two-term deputy to Chief Joshua Dariye from 1999 to 2007 and acted briefly as governor from November 13, 2006 to April 27, 2007 when Dariye was impeached by some members of the state’s House of Assembly.

He was said to have died from complications arising from diabetes early hours of Saturday in his Zawan, Jos South Local Government Area of the state.

According to the former Commissioner for Information in the state, Mr. Yakubu Dati, Botman was a loyal deputy who discharged his duties diligently to the development of the state.

“His death is very unfortunate. Botmang was a loyal deputy, who discharged his duties faithfully to his boss, Dariye, especially during those turbulent years of the administration. He was an amiable person, who will be greatly missed.”
