1,800 DIRECT JOBS CREATED, CUSTOMS REVENUE INCREASED THROUGH OGUN GUANDONG FTZ

The Republic of China Guandong Free Trade Zone in Igbesa, Ado-Odo/Ota LGA of Ogun State has boosted Customs’ revenue drive and generated over 1,800 direct jobs for unemployed youths in the country.

This was disclosed by the Nigeria Customs Services (NCS), one of the regulatory authorities of Free Trade Zones (FTZs) who also stated that Nigeria has become an exporter of Ceramic products to other West African countries and Dubai in United Arab Emirates (UAE) through it.

He explains that it not only generates revenue for Nigeria Customs and Governments at various levels and jobs for unemployed youths, but is also providing platform for transfer of technology between Nigeria and China.

Ade Dosunmu, Customs Comptroller, Ogun State Command, speaking at the weekend with some select journalists in Abeokuta also disclosed that the tripartite partnership that exists between the Customs, Ogun state government and Guandong FTZ in the last 10 months had yielded robust revenue and other benefits for the concerned partners in different forms.

“The business activities in the Free Trade Zone, facilitated by prompt Customs attention, international trade flow, imports and exports logistics and delivery of goods into the zone, have been encouraging in last 10 months,” he said, adding that the economic advantage of Guandong FTZ to government and Nigeria was immense.

He pointed out that the business activities in Ogun Guandong FTZ some months ago were very low, but FTZ has generated over 1,800 direct jobs to the advantage of the community and the state, adding that it has really boosted the custom revenue in the Command.

He however, declared that Nigeria can now export Ceramic products to other West African countries up to Dubai as FTZ provides all the raw material for Ceramic Factory, adding that it is an economy advantage to the country in terms of transfer of technology, generation of employment and revenue to the government.
