Liberia –Over 500 public school teachers from various educational districts in Nimba County have threatened to go on strike if their salaries are not paid.

The teachers who said they had taught for about two years in school in the country without a monthly salary had given the government a 2 weeks ultimatum to address their plight.

According to them, the government had instructed them to get to the classrooms and teach immediately after their graduation from the ZorZor Rural Teachers Training Institute in Lofa County since 2009, saying that are yet to receive a dime from the government since then.

Wallace Davis principal of Bueley public school in Buuvao District, Nimba County, and head of the aggrieved teachers also stated that the teachers are running out of patience, saying the government had continue to fool them despite spending so much in transportation.

The public Affairs Director at the Ministry of Education, J Maxim Bleetenwho although had denied notice of the strike stated that a staff meeting will however be called to address the problem.
