CEOAFRICA gathered that the Federal Government is to prosecute over 50 companies for falsifying their documents in other to procure contracts.

The Bureau for Public Procurement (BPP) gave the indication on Monday stating that names of over 50 companies have been sent to EFCC and the ICPC for investigation and possible prosecution for the offence.

Emeka Ezeh, the Director General of BPP, stated this at the signing of a cooperation agreement with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

He declared to have signed off another letter on Friday to EFCC and ICPC listing over fifty companied that tried to get government job through the use of forged documents.

Ezeh highlighted that some people make false claim as to their capacity and don’t even know what a cubic metre of concrete is, quoting ridiculously low and then shouting down the roof when they don’t get the contract.

He further disclosed that procurement staffs of different MDAs are also being investigated by the ICPC, announcing that UNODC has donated a sum of 34 million Euros for the anti-corruption activities in the country.

The DG noted however that the international body which had studied and understands the fight against corruption in the country has urged the government to focus on developing policies that will be more of preventive, rather than looking into a crime only after it has been perpetrated.
