Pfizer’s $25.5m hospital, built in Kano is completed and set for commissioning

CEOAFRICA news desk gathered that the medical facility built by Pfizer, the global drug manufacturing giant, as part of the out-of-court settlement reached with Kano State government in respect of the disputed clinical test of Trovan drug in the state is completed and now set for commissioning.

 The hospital, a $25.5 million Diagnostic and Disease Control Centre, is the first of its kind in West Africa, sited in the outskirts of metropolitan district of the commercial city.

According to source, David Odio, executive secretary, Healthcare Meningitis Trust Fund (HMTF), a corporate entity floated as part of the out-of-court settlement, confirmed this while speaking to reporters during an official tour of the facility at the weekend.

The hospital sitting on 9.6 hectares of land, contains various facilities including public health laboratory, micro biological reference laboratory, diagnostic centre, 100 beds patient ward, ultra-modern kitchen and dining facility, staff quarters, as well as mortuary.

Mr. Odio also disclosed that the development of the hospital had fully been completed, and all required equipment fixed, pointing out that the management of the HMTF is set for its handover to the Kano State government.

 The centre is expected to be commissioned before the end of November by the Kano State Governor, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, also has facilities to quarantine patients during outbreaks as well as assist medical personnel in tracking individual strains of causative agents/diseases so as to determine the medication required.
