CEOAFRICA gathered that Lagos state would soon commence comprehensive kidney treatment in the state hospitals.

Mr. Suru Avoseh, a member of Lagos Assembly revealed this in Lagos, on Sunday, stating that such a facility would allow the citizens to have quick access to kidney treatment and transplant.

He pointed out that the Trauma and Burns Centre which was just commissioned in Gbagada General Hospital is believed to be the first of its kind in the whole of the federation, adding that the Cardiac and Renal Centre, which is about to be commissioned is expected to be one of the best when completed.

Avoseh (APC-Badagry I) said the citizens would enjoy the resources here in Nigeria instead of travelling to India, Britain or the U.S. for kidney problems or transplant, stressing that the facilities would be available to everyone to have contact with the medical doctors who would be giving professional advice to the kidney patients.

The lawmaker also advised the residents to take advantage of the ongoing modelling of Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in the state.

Avoseh urged the residents to patronise available PHCs in their various communities instead of proceeding to the General Hospitals and Teaching Hospital for ailments that could be properly handled at the PHC level.

“We are also revitalizing our PHCs. In the past, you could only see one medical doctor in a PHC, but now you can see six, seven or eight qualified doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacists and laboratory technicians readily available.

“The state government wants to ensure that all the 20 local government areas and 37 LCDAs have effective PHC each,” he said.
