The last quarter-final game of the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup between the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria and the Uruguay U-17 got off to a compact start as both teams tried to unlock each other’s defence.

In the 18th minute of the encounter, Taiwo Awoniyi  broke the deadlock when he slotted into the net from a true pass courtesy Kelechi Iheanacho.

The first half ended with the Uruguay team trying to find the equalizer but their efforts were thwarted by the in-form Nigerian goalkeeper, Dele Alampasu.

The second half got off with the South Americans coming out stronger but was unable to pass the defence line of the Eaglets.

However, Taiwo Awoniyi netted the second goal of the encounter and his second when again, he benefitted from Kelechi Iheanacho’s pass.It was in the 79th minute of the game.

The Golden Eaglets lived up to their pre-match promises that they will avenge Super Eagles and Flying Eagles losses to the Uruguans earlier in the year. It would be recalled that Super Eagles lost 2-1 to the South American Champions at the 2013 Confederations cup in Brazil, while the Flying Eagles also lost with the same goal margin to the U-20 side of Uruguay at the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey.

Nigeria will face Sweden in the semi-final, as Mexico sets to battle Argentina.
