Super Eagles and Lazio of Italy midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi displayed his heroic attribute in Rome when he was able to nab a thief and handed him over to the police.

Speaking to the Style Radio after the story hit the headlines, the former junior international said;

“I was having dinner with my brother near to the Termini Station and there were some tourists sitting next to us.

“I saw a boy and immediately felt due to his suspicious behaviour that he wanted to steal something. I didn’t even have time to tell my brother that he had already snatched the tourist’s wallet and run off.

“I noticed it, so I ran after him, but stayed on the other side of the street. I ran for 300 metres, the mugger left the wallet under a car, but I saw him.

“I chased him down and brought him back to the restaurant, avoiding the ire of the people around there. I told the restaurant owner to call the police and we brought the wallet back to the lady. She was in tears and thanked me, as the wallet was full of money.

“At that point, seeing as the situation had been resolved, my brother and I left.” Onazi concluded.

Onazi was part of John Obu-led Golden Eaglets squad that won silver at the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Nigeria. He was also part of the U-20 team that won the 2011 African Junior Championship, before crashing out at the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia after loosing 3-2 to France.

However, Super Eagles Coach Stephen Keshi   gave him the opportunity to shine at the senior level in 2012, and since then, he has become an integral part of the team by contributing immensely to the 2013 AFCON triumph of Super Eagles in South Africa.
