Mazda Motors Corp has declared that it would be recalling 161,400 Mazda 6 sedan cars in the U.S because of faulty screws which could cause the side doors to open while on the move.

According to documents filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Japanese auto maker is recalling the cars from model years 2009 through 2013 because the door latch mounting screws could become loose.

The administration said U.S. safety regulators had opened a probe called “Preliminary Evaluation’’ in May after receiving four consumer complaints on the issue.

It further explained that Mazda will apply a thread-locking adhesive to the screws and re-tighten them free of charge to avoid risk of accident.

The recall however is expected to begin on October 18.
