The Federal Government has disclosed the arrest of 146 workers in the Federal Civil Service who had presented fake certificates.

CEOAFRICA news desk gathered that action has extinguished the fears of imminent downsizing that has gripped the civil servants, especially workers in the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation.

The Head of Service of the Federation, Alhaji Bukar Goni Aji, who made this statement at a town hall meeting with the Joint Union Negotiating Council (JUNC), HOS Office, held at the Public Service Institute, Kubwa, Abuja, also revealed that there was no plan to retrench workers by the Federal Government.

Alhaji Bukar was reacting to fears being expressed on Monday by the president of the JUNC, David Iffi, on behalf of other staff in the HOS Office, at the meeting organized by the union.

He explained that the Federal Government under the transformation agenda of President GoodLuck Jonathan plans to create more jobs through YouWin programme and diversify the economy of the country, so as to open other employment opportunities.

He further elaborated that what was done was to free the Office of the Head of Service of the activities not within its core mandate which it had been overloaded with by implementing the provisions of the enabling laws, moving pension matters, Group Life Assurance, among others, to appropriate ministries.

The Civil Service Boss however, revealed that the Federal Government had approved the sum of £146,000 pounds for the payment of five colonial pensioners for the upfront of 24 years.
