Home-Based Super Eagles to Play South Africa in CHAN 2014

Confederation of African Football (CAF) has released draws for the grouping of 2014 African Nations Championship holding in South Africa.

The tournament is strictly for home-based players plying their trade in different local leagues across Africa.

CEOAFRICA sports desk gathered that home-based Super Eagles was drawn in the same group with the host, South Africa, Mali and Mozambique.

The opening match would feature South Africa and Mozambique on 11th of January, 2014 in Cape Town.

Below are pairings for the competition;

Group A

South Africa, Mali, Nigeria, Mozambique

Group B

Zimbabwe, Uganda, Bukina Faso, Morocco

Group C

Ghana, Congo Brazaville, Ethiopia, Libya

Group D

DR Congo, Mauritania, Burundi, Gabon

The 2014 edition of the competition would be the third of its kind. The last two editions were claimed by Democratic Republic of Congo and Tunisia respectively.

The home-based Super Eagles is making its debut at the competition, having knocked out Cote d’ Ivoire in the qualifying round.

CHAN will take place between 11 January and 1 February next year.
