According to a report reaching the sports desk of CEOAFRICA.com, Cape Verde, the country that edged out Tunisia in the qualifying games for the play-off round in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification, have been disqualified from participating in the last round of the Africa qualification for fielding an ineligible player.

FIFA ruled that Fernando Varela, who featured for the Islanders in the match against Tunisia where they emerged victorious by 2-0, should not have played because he has not completed his match suspension.

With this disqualification of Cape Verde, the hope of Tunisia in participating at next year’s FIFA World Cup has been revived. They will replace Cape Verde at the draws for the last play-offs scheduled to hold on Monday in Cairo.
