Thousands across the USA took part in peaceful rallies after a grand jury decided not to indict the Ferguson police officer who shot dead unarmed black teenager Michael Brown in August. Ferguson itself saw violent protests after the ruling.

From New York City and Chicago to Seattle and Los Angeles, people marched and chanted slogans.

The protestors held their hands in the air, yelling "Hands up, don't shoot," a refrain that has become a rallying cry from this latest tragedy to blight the USA.

Demonstrators marched through the streets of Harlem, New York City, in the early hours of the morning, while in Oakland, California, they took to the freeways, blocking traffic.

FRANCE 24 takes a look at some of the photos being shared on social media of the violent protests in Ferguson and the rallies bringing protesters together across the country.
