The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party has granted waiver to the former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, to enable him contest the Abia North senatorial election.

This was disclosed on Tuesday to journalists by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh,

The PDP NWC also directed that a special committee be set up in Abuja to screen Kalu to avoid a possible violence between Orji Kalu supoorters and the supporters of the incumbent governor, Theodore Orji.

Another source at the meeting said the NWC observed that since the former governor has joined PDP in January 12, 2011 and has applied for waiver, it will amount to injustice if he is denied the waiver.

“Some waivers have been granted to returnees even to people who applied much later; why should his own be different?” the source argued.
He disclosed that the PDP wants to ensure a united party in the state and wants its members to work as a team.

According to the source, in a bid to find amicable solution to the problem, the state governor, Theodore Orji was given two senatorial slots as well as all House of Assembly members.
