Muslim leaders in Osun State have called on politicians in Nigeria to stop sponsoring some disgruntled youths who are unleashing terror on the country.

The First Vice President of Osun State Muslim Community, Alhaji Mustafa Olawuyi, said this in Osogbo on Monday at a press conference to usher in the new Hijrah year-1436, which stars on Saturday, October 25.

Olawuyi, who dissociated Islam from terrorism, blamed the frequent attacks especially in some states in the North eastern part of the country on some politicians, accusing the political leaders of planning to set the whole nation ablaze.

The cleric also admonished  Muslims and adherents of other religions to live together in love and unity, saying that was the only time the nation could experience development.

He said, “We appeal to all citizens and people of this state to allow peace and harmony to continue to reign.

” We also appeal, to all especially our political class to stop sponsoring terrorism that breeds no good for anyone.

” Terrorism  has no religion, no ethnicity, no nation. The sponsors only, know what they gain in mass destruction of life and property of innocent citizens and creating an atmosphere of fear and hatred.

” Boko Haram has nothing to do with Islam and it must be defeated and sponsor brought to book.”

The cleric also also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission and the other stakeholders to ensure that the 2015 presidential election is not manipulated.

He said any attempt to thwart the wish of of the majority of the voters could trigger crisis, saying anything, which could destabilise the country, must be avoided by all.

The President, Osun State Muslim Community, Alhaji Salawdeen Olayiwola, also appealled to political leaders in the country to stop any act capable of stopping God from listening to their prayers
