Algeria coach Christian Gourcuff believes the Desert Foxes are in the right frame of form to win the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled for Morocco next January.

“After a good World Cup performance, we want to qualify for Afcon finals and also win it next year. For now, we are taking it step by step, one game at a time; obviously the aim now is to qualify,” the Frenchman told MBC Radio of Malawi.

Gourcuff presided over a 2-0 win over Malawi to remain top of Group B on nine points from three games and are favourites when hosting the Flames this Wednesday in a reverse fixture.

Defenders Rafik Halliche and substitute Djamel Mesbah scored to hand Algeria the win on Saturday afternoon at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The Flames have three points from three games and are placed third whereas Mali are second on six points after beating bottom-placed Ethiopia 2-0 also on Saturday.
