Nigerian authorities ordered to enhance security in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the course of country’s 54th Independence anniversary celebration.

The measures taken by the Federal Government include deployment of security agencies members to all areas of the FCT, Nigerian Tribune reports.

Moreover, troops from guard brigade stop and search vehicles heading to and from Abuja.

It was learnt that police were positioned in the strategic areas, the patrol was intensified.

The Commandant General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Dr Ade Abolurin on his part, guaranteed hitch-free celebrations noting the importance of corps members presence at the strategic points.

Thus, he claimed that the massively deployed corps were vigilant to prevent any potential attack on the government infrastructure and on the people.

It would be recalled that became target of a deadly terror attack on May Day, when the explosion claimed scores of lives at Nyanya bus station.

The second Abuja tragedy in a row, which followed the April 14 bombing of almost the same area, caused panic among the capital residents, who feared that Boko Haram terrorism had spread across the country.

Soon numerous reports based on intelligence started circulating alleging that insurgents plot to carry out suicide bombings in Abuja. However as it was not possible to locate the place of potential attacks, the security measures were tightened in general. Police also urged the citizens to be vigilant and reports any suspicious objects or behaviour.
