In a bid to address mass failure in examinations, the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council, has introduced e-curriculum in all Senior Secondary Schools in Nigeria.

The e-curriculum is a web-based, curriculum delivery solution for learners, teachers, education managers and other stakeholders.

The Executive Secretary of NERDC, Professor Godswill Obioma, who announced this on Monday in Abuja, explained that e-curriculum would address the issue of failure in examinations.

He attributed the mass failure in the last Senior School Certificate Examinations to inadequate learning and teaching, noting however that the e-curriculum would enable students to learn at home through the Internet.

Obioma said, “The objective of this public Private Partnership arrangements is to, among others, harness the potentials of the private sector in tackling the challenges of access, education standards and quality, curriculum and teacher development, funding, relevance of current issues in education to Nigerian culture as well as re-orientation for positive national values.”

“Taken together therefore, the e-curriculum portal would contribute in no small measure towards ensuing that teachers, learners and other relevant stakeholders have easy access to this very important teaching and leaning resource,” he said.

He stressed that the e-curriculum would ensure online access to the prescribed national currriculum in all subjects offered at the senior secondary education level.

The NERDC boos, therefore tasked stakeholders to key into and embrace the initiative which he said was developed to induce and sustain access and quality of education in Nigeria.

The e-curriculum which would be launched on Tuesday in Abuja by the Minister of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, was done in collaboration with Sidmach Technologies Nigeria Ltd, and it is expected to ensure the digitalization of school curriculum to e-curriculum portal.

It would also enable students and parents to have online access to all subjects.
