The Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, has scheduled an emergency meeting with all health commissioners in Nigeria, Monday, amid renewed concerns over the spread of Ebola especially among health care workers.

Another doctor tested positive to the virus on Sunday, Rivers State health ministry said.

The Port Harcourt-based physician is the wife of Ikechukwu Enemuo, the doctor who died of Ebola the oil-rich city.

Mr. Enemuo died August 22 after treating an ECOWAS staff who had come in contact with Patrick Sawyer, the late Liberian-American who brought the virus into Nigeria.

According to Sampson Parker, Rivers state commissioner for health, the infected doctor is in stable condition at an isolation unit.

Health workers have been the most-hit by Ebola since the virus arrived Nigeria late July.

Of the six deaths recorded so far in Nigeria, two were doctors and two nurses.

According to Mr. Parker, another doctor and a pharmacist were quarantined at an unnamed isolation unit outside Port Harcourt, Rivers state.

The World Health Organisation has voiced concern about the “unprecedented” number of health-care workers hit by the Ebola outbreak.

More than 120 health workers have died and over 240 others infected so far.

Ebola has killed at least 1, 552 people and infected 3,062 as of August 26, according to WHO figures.

At current infection rates, the WHO fears it could take six to nine months and at least $490 million to bring the virus under control, by which time over 20 000 people could be affected.
