The President of the Nigeria Shooting Federation Wole Madariola has said in due course he will explain why the equipment of the federation got a bit late to Glasgow, Scotland for the ongoing 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The shooting boss dismissed suggestions that a misunderstanding between the National Sports Commission and the federation contributed to the problem. He said it was not true as there were circumstances beyond their control that affected the scheduled delivery of the items. He maintained that the NSC went the extra mile to get the equipment to Glasgow on time and added that the federation enjoyed very cordial relationship with the sports ministry and as such no ill feelings affected their programmes.

He said, “Shooting federation did not forget their equipment in Nigeria as some people have said without proper investigation. There are things that happened and there are things that are happening but at the right time the other agencies and I will speak out concerning the short delay.

“I will soon address a press conference where I hope to put the record straight and rest all the matters on the delay.”

Also the Director-General of the NSC Gbenga Elegbeleye explained that the Commission did not fail to pay the camp allowances of the athletes in Glasgow. He told reporters that the payment of the allowances had followed the pattern laid down by the sports ministry while planning for the games and other sporting events for the year.

The DG said that it was a common practice that such payment was usually done at the end of the competition like it was done during the Gaborone 2014 Africa Youth Games in Botswana.

He said, “I have read in the media that the National Sports Commission has failed to pay camp allowances to athletes before the commencement of the Games.”
