…Warns against attempt to manipulate Osun guber polls

As the battle for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of 2015 elections intensifies, stakeholders of the party from the South-East geo-political zone have indicated their interest in the ticket.

Speaking yesterday in an interview in Awka, the party’s National Auditor, Chief George Muoghalu, said the zone’s interest in the presidential ticket was responsible for its lack of interest in the national chairmanship position at the party’s recent national convention.

Muoghalu, who was the former national secretary of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), said the APC had not zoned the presidency to any zone for now, thereby making it open for all eligible aspirants.

He described the APC as the party that holds the bright future for Ndigbo, adding that it was only in the party that the wish of Ndigbo to produce Nigeria’s president would be achieved, stressing that the Igbo had capable hands in the party to vie for the position.

He said: “APC is the party that holds the future of any Igbo person, the Igbo like APC, which is the only party that can protect them. We are interested in the presidency of Nigeria and that is why we rejected some positions at the national convention of our party.

“The Igbo have capable hands in the zone to vie for the position. It has not been zoned to anywhere. What APC will do is to create the enabling environment, where people will express themselves and after the contest, we will work like a family.

“This is the only party that can give the people of Nigeria what they desire. The polity is being overheated in the face of the security challenges facing us, I, for-see danger in 2015. We must do everything to guard this democracy, we should not politicise security in this country; we have a responsibility to protect this democracy.”

On the forthcoming governorship election in Osun, Muoghalu warned that any attempt by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to manipulate the election, the way “they did in Ekiti recently,” must be resisted by the APC, alleging that Nigeria had derailed under the PDP leadership.
