The Nasarawa State House of Assembly, on Wednesday, directed the Clerk of the House, Mr. Ego Maikeffi, to mandate the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Umaru Diko, to set step up a seven- man committee.

The lawmakers, who sat for six minutes at the Assembly complex in Lafia, said the panel would probe Governor Tanko Al-Makura over alleged misconduct and abuse of oath of office contained in the notice of impeachment served him.

It was gathered that the 20 Peoples Democratic Party lawmakers in the House arrived Lafia from Abuja in a Coastal bus as early as 3am and stayed in an undisclosed location till 6am before they went to the House.

They, however, stayed in their various offices from 6am to 10am, where security was provided for them.

The Speaker of the House, Musa Ahmed, presided over the plenary that started at 10am.

A member, Godiya Akwashiki Nasarawa, representing Eggon West, moved the motion that the House should direct the clerk to mandate the chief judge to set up the panel.

The motion was seconded by Baba Ibaku (Udege/Loko) and adopted by the House.

The sitting was attended by all the members of the PDP in the House and one All Progressives Congress lawmaker.

While the PDP has 20 members in the House, the APC has four lawmakers.

After the adoption of the motion, the Speaker said, “Mr. Clerk you are by this motion as seconded hereby, directed to communicate the Chief Judge of Nasarawa State to constitute a seven- man panel to investigate the alleged misconduct by Umaru Tanko Al-Maklura.”

There was a drama before the sitting as, Tanko Tunga (APC, Awe North) attempted to snatch the maze from the Sergeant-at-Arms.

He was, however, resisted by Baba Ibku (PDP) Udege/Loko).

Tunga said his colleagues, who were bent on removing the governor, were out on a mission to ruin the state.

In an interview with The PUNCH, shortly after the adoption of the motion, Tunga said, “These members who sat today (Wednesday) are anti-progress, anti-democracy and anti-development. They want to destroy the peace of the state.”
