Worried by the pace of work currently going on at the Orthopedic Hospital N20 million Governor Willie Obiano community project in Abacha, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State, Engineer Godwin Ben Chuba, the traditional ruler of the community, has cried out to the governor to come to the rescue of community.
Chuba said, “We don’t have control or say in the orthopedic hospital we chose to be constructed for us, the consultant and contractor dissociated the community from involvement.
“If I tell you that I have not seen the consultant you will not believe it. I have invited the consultant on two occasions; he has not come.
“I don’t even know the design of the project. I need the project to have two phases but they refused. They side-tracked my community, my cabinet from being involved in the construction,” he cried out.
The monarch who is of the view that since one does not know about tomorrow as it concerns money, the need to start the first phase became imperative to be able to generate revenue to work on the second phase that would not play much role in the health delivery system.
On why the community picked to construct orthopedic hospital, the monarch revealed that most accident victims who have fractures were commercial bike (okada) riders and there was no place within Onitsha and environs for orthopedic hospital for such bone victims.
“Since the state government refused to ban okada, we decided to build the hospital for the victims,” he said.
On Governor Obiano’s victory he said, “those complaining of rigging also rigged, they shouldn’t disturb the society, they should have spirit of sportsmanship to keep the state moving.”
“APGA did her homework, campaigned very well. It is in our blood that we go to court so that we don’t take the shame,” the monarch posited.
He expressed satisfaction that there would be continuity but frowned at what he termed the inability of Governor Obiano to do well on road construction.
“If you can’t do new roads maintain the old one, we need water and electricity,” he added.
