Rivers United Manager, Stanley Eguma says the team will work out a strategy to tackle Sudanese club, Al-Merreikh in the second leg match of their CAF Champions League match.

United beat Al-Merreikh 3-0 in the first leg, first round CAF Champions League match played at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt on Sunday.

United`s striker, Guy Kuemain, scored twice in the 15th and 17th minutes while midfielder, Esosa Igbinoba scored the third goal in the 82nd minute. Al-Merrieikh`s attacker, Bakri Babeechar, almost scored for his side in the 20th minute but his goal bound shot was saved by United`s keeper, Sunday Rotimi.

In the second half, Rotimi saved the situation for his side when he saved a pull-out from the right flank by Al-Merreikh`s Ramadan Ajarb. Eguma said his team used the chances that came their way to score goals. “ We had fatigue in the second half because of the wears and tears of the league. “ We tried our best to see how we could score more goals. I think that three goals in a game is not a bad result.

The Manager said the team will be cautious in the return match in Sudan. “ We will fashion out a formation and strategy on how to see that we are cautious. While we try to get a spoiler goal, we will be very cautious not to concede goals. “ It’s not yet over and we will take it from there,” Eguma said. Al-Merreikh Italian Manager, Diego Garzitto, said the weather and synthetic pitch affected his team. “We are not used to playing in synthetic field and we play most of our matches in the night.

The weather was not favourable to us,” he said. Garzitto said the team would work hard to cancel the three goals conceded against United. Kelechi Osunwa, Nigerian Al-Merreikh striker, said the team played several matches before meeting United in the CAF Champions League match.

“ Our players were tired having played in the Arab League and some domestic matches. We played eight games in three days before this match,” he said.
