The popular Kano shopping mall, Ado Bayero mall has been shut down by the Municipal Local Government on Wednesday over non-payment of tax.

CEOAfrica gathered that some officials from the local government stormed the popular mall in the early hours of today and locked all entries into the mall with chains and padlocks.

Also, armed policemen and personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were stationed at the main entrance of the mall to prevent entry into the mall, leaving staff, shop owners and customers stranded.

When approached for inquiry, some of the stranded workers said they could not comment on the development because they were not authorized to speak to press.

However, one of them, who pleaded for anonymity, said: “We were not briefed about the development and the manager went to the local government to settle the matter. We are waiting for the manager to come and tell us what to do next. But for now, no one can speak to you on this issue.”

As at the time of writing this report, efforts to reach the Chairman of Municipal Local Government, Alhaji  Mukhtari Ishaq could not be reached.
