ON FRIDAY business in Cosmo City came to a standstill.

Over 8 000 residents of the crime-infested area took to the streets to say enough is enough.

South Africa Road was locked down as people made sure their grievances were heard.

They complained about the high state of crime in the area, demanding visible policing.

Protester Maggie Nkuna (48) said: “We’ve had enough of crime and want the government to do something. Last week my wheelbarrow was stolen and there’s still no trace of it. The other time my neighbour lost her clothes on the washing line during the day. How are we supposed to live?”

Maggie said she’s been living in Cosmo City for over 15 years and crime has risen to uncontrollable levels. “We need help or else we will have no choice but to take the law into our own hands.”

Community leader Karabo Ndini said they do not have a proper police station. “Crime is very bad and we do not have enough police. We want a new police station to be built here.”

People met with safety and security officials at Cosmo Mall to hand over their memorandum.
