Enugu Rangers will fight for at least a draw in Lokoja on Sunday against Nasarawa United in order to keep their title hope alive.

Presently on second spot on the league table, the players and management know that any slip on Sunday will be a huge dent on their title aspiration.

Rangers have 51 points from 30 matches. They are two points adrift of leaders, Wikki Tourists.

The loss against IfeanyiUba in week 31 remains a sore point in Rangers’ push to halt over three decades’ of winless streak in any competition.

The Enugu side has endured a long period of time without any trophy but has shown from the beginning of the season that they are ready to finally bury the trophyless ghost with good performances.

Coach Imama Amapakabo, speaking ahead of the match, said that anything short of win would not be good enough. The coach, who is spurring for history with the Antelopes, assured fans that Rangers was on track to win the league.

“We are not troubled by our position on the log because I know it is temporary. Against Nasarawa, anything short of win will not do our campaign any good, but we need everybody to support us now,” he said.

But Nasarawa United coach, Kabiru Dogo, during a media chat, sounded optimistic of the chances of the Solid Miners to return to the continent at the end of the season.

Speaking ahead of their game against Rangers, Dogo said that not even their opponent position would intimidate his players, saying that they would attack Rangers with a view to winning all the three points.

“Our hope is to finish among the top three teams and return to the continent and that ambition has not waned,” he said.

“We are not afraid of any team even though we respect all of them campaigning in the league. Even the position of our opponent on Sunday will not stop us from attacking them because we are aiming to win all the three points.”
