Aspiring fashion designers, stylists and fashion enthusiasts gathered together for the second edition of The Power Talk Series, which held last Sunday, at The Social Place, Victoria Island, Lagos. The event, themed: “Understanding The Business of Fashion,” focused mainly on what is required to run a successful fashion enterprise.

The quarterly event, hosted by Leading Ladies Africa, presented an opportunity for women to learn about the business of fashion from leading fashion entrepreneurs in Nigeria.

Lisa Folawiyo, Creative Director of the international fashion label, Jewel by Lisa, was the keynote speaker at the event, which drew a record number of fashion entrepreneurs and industry experts. During her session, she inspired and motivated the women, as she shared in details, her journey into fashion and the secrets behind the success of her fashion brand.

The event also featured a panel discussion with leading fashion entrepreneurs, including Ejiro Amos Tafiri, Creative Director/Founder, Ejiro Amos Tafiri, Kene Rapu, Founder, Kene Rapu, International Stylist and Fashion Entrepreneur; Jane Michael Ekanem, and Fashion retail queen, and founder of Zazaii, Isoken Ogiemwonyi. All shared incredible insights on how to navigate through the bumps and curves of the fashion industry to create a thriving fashion brand. Both sessions were followed with a hugely interactive Q&A session.

“The core objective of the Power Talk Series is to create comfortable spaces for women to engage, connect and thrive. Every quarter, we try to focus on a specific sector, and get industry experts to come share their knowledge and experiences, as a way of inspiring and motivating each other,” says Francesca Uriri, founder of the non-profit, Leading Ladies Africa. Commenting further, she says: “Our core objective, as an organisation, is to promote women empowerment and gender inclusion. The only way to smash through the glass ceiling is to equip women with the skills required for them to lead successful, impactful lives.”

The Leading Ladies Africa Series was held in partnership with YNaija, The Guardian and The September Standard. The next event is scheduled to hold in the second week of December, and promises to be even more impactful.
