The Oyo State Chapter of the Accord Party has condemned the creation of additional Local Council Development Areas, describing the act as a ‘misplacement of priority’ and a misguided policy and unwarranted at this auspicious time.
In a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary of the Party, Dr. Nureni Adeniran, Accord Party was of the view that Governor Ajimobi-led administration in the state was not being run for the benefit of the good people of the State.
He claimed that the additional LCDAs will no doubt add to the burden of Local Government administration, claiming they were not sustainable.
“At present, the local government workers are being owed several months of salaries with little or no development going on at the local government level.
“One wonders where the funding of the so called LCDAs will come from.
Dr. Adeniran claimed that the administration has turned deaf-ear to the yearnings of the people and non-responsive.
“Accord sees this action as a deliberate ploy by the Governor to delay or totally avoid the conduct of the much expected local government election due to serious decline in the popularity of All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, as evident in the outcome of the recently conducted Oorelope State Assembly re-run election.
Dr. Adeniran concluded by calling on the political class and other well-meaning people of Oyo State to rise against what he called autocratic rule of Ajimobi and prevent the state from being turned to a pariah state.
He further asked them to explore the appropriate legal means to halt the move since no consultation was made and no referendum conducted.
