Over 3,600 senior police officers have been promoted, the Police Service Commission, PSC, has announced.

In a statement on Sunday by its spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, the PSC said 3,684 inspectors were promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP.

Also, eight police pilots were promoted from ASP to the rank of Deputy Superintendents of Police, DSP; while two aircraft engineers were also promoted to DSPs.

The statement stated that the promotions took effect from January 1.

The PSC is the Nigerian agency responsible for the promotion and discipline of senior police officers.

The Nigeria Police, considered one of the most corrupt institutions in the country by various surveys, has been criticised for poor performance, corruption and other deficiencies. It’s role of checking civil disturbances has over the years been virtually usurped by the Nigerian military.
