The Kwara State council of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has cautioned its members against violence.
The State NURTW Chairman, Alhaji Aliyu Ore, gave the warning in a chat with City Rove in Ilorin.
The warning came following recent clash between NURTW and Road Transport Employers Association in Nigeria (RTEAN) in Offa, Offa Local Government Area, which threw some parts of the town in turmoil.
Ore said the union he inherited and chaired has continued to admonish members to be law-abiding and avoid being provoked in whatever guise.
He exonerated his members from any retaliation, consequent upon the clash, saying “as you can see, none of my members was seen retaliating after the pandemonium in Offa.”
The NURTW boss also called on members to always accord welfare of passengers utmost priority, maintaining that it would be unfair to put their lives at risk in the outbreak of violence.
Ore advised members of other transport unions to be cautious of their actions and conduct themselves peacefully at all times.
“We at NURTW urge our members not to retaliate any attack on them but should follow due process by approaching relevant authorities to express their grievances.
“We also implore them to be law-abiding members; they should exercise extreme patience any time they are provoked.
“They should go about their normal businesses and ensure that welfare of passengers is put on the front burner,” Ore said.
