Tavengwa Mukuhlani has been nominated as the new Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) board chairman at the association's Annual General Meeting held in Harare.

Mukuhlani, who has served on the board before, takes over from Wilson Manase. Manase was interim board chairman for the last 14 months, having taken over from Peter Chingoka who quit midway through his term.

Manase contested but failed to garner enough votes to return to the board, after polling just three votes while Bauren Matemayi had two.

Sylvester Matshaka is the new vice chairman while Lincoln Bhila, Elisha Kandi, Mainos Mudukuti and Maureen Kuchocha are the other board members.

"It's a good feeling to be back, more so now that I am chairman. I thank the province for showing confidence in me and it's now up to us as a board to deliver," said Mukuhlani. "We are geared towards getting cricket back on track and as a board doing what is good for the game."

He said their immediate area of concern as a board were the results of the senior men's national team.

"Obviously we would want to see the national team results improve so that's one of the important areas that we have to work on immediately."

In line with the ZC constitution, the 10 provincial cricket associations gathered as an electoral college to elect seven members of the board from among themselves.

Because only seven provincial chairmen were eligible, they were deemed duly elected onto the new ZC board. The seven are: William Chaitezvi, Wonder Chisango, Enock Ikope, Boniface Machuwaire, Arthur Maposa, Vumindaba Moyo and Fiona Ndhlovu.

The seven then elected onto the board six people chosen on the basis of their specialist skills.

Afterwards, the new board members met in accordance with the ZC constitution and elected a chairman and deputy from among themselves.

The elections have been low-key and Manase was expected to sweep back into office, but a few surprises were expected.

To his credit Manase brought some confidence in the sponsors with funding trickling back into the game.

The national team had also benefitted from a busier fixture programme that has already seen the national team play Pakistan, India and New Zealand this year.

Pakistan is scheduled to tour Zimbabwe next month followed by South Africa, Ireland and Afghanistan before Zimbabwe's visit to Bangladesh next year.
