Catholic Clergy Optmisitic About Peace In Nigeria

The Catholic Bishops Conference of Ibadan, Ecclesiastical Province, has expressed optimism about peace returning to the country following the peaceful general election and smooth transition of government.

The gathering, which took place on Monday at the Jubilee Conference Centre, Oke-Ado Ibadan focused on matters of concern to the church, nation, youths and family in general.

In a communique issued to CEOAFRICA at the end of the conference’s second plenary meeting, signed by the Archbishop of Ibadan, Most Rev. Gabriel Abegunrin congratulated the Association of Consecrated Persons on the successful celebration of the on-going year of consecrated life which would end on the 2nd of February, 2016.

Most Reverend Abegunrin urged people to continue to pray fervently for the successful outcome of the event. He also used the medium in calling on all the delegates to the Synod to courageously bear witness to the plan of God in creating man and woman and the family relationship.

Abegunrin made references to the renewed hope of a new Nigeria generated in the country since the last general election. He advised all compatriots to cooperate with the current administration to bring sanity back into the country by showing common determination to reject corruption, nepotism, favouritism and to enthrone in our country a regime of justice and equity, where merits are respected and the rule of law exalted.

The Archdiocese comprises of the six states in the southwest geopolitical zone and Kwara state.
