The Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in the last election in Oyo State, Mr. Seyi Makinde, has refuted a report that he had quit partisan politics.

Makinde, while reacting to the report where the writer claimed that he had told his supporters that if he lost the last election, it would be the end of his participation in politics, said since the election was held, he was yet to meet with his followers on his political future, wondering where the writer got his information.

The SDP governorship candidate in a statement by his Director of Media and Publicity, Alhaji Wale Adele, noted that the decision on the next phase of his political direction would be taken after a due consultation with his political constituency, adding this would also be made public.

He said members of the press should not be in a hurry to infer what is in the mind of an individual, particularly somebody like Makinde who can be reached at the slightest notice by the said writer.

He urged his supporters across the state to wait for the right time when they will all meet to take a decision about the political future of their leader, stressing that it would be a collective decision.

He also wondered about the accuracy of the report, which said he lost the election because of the kind of political association with which he went into before the election.

He said the misfortune of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could not accurately be said to be the root cause of the failure of every other person that participated in the election, adding that the change that brought about the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the driver’s seat should be seen in a broader sense of a normal happening in all democracies around the world.

Makinde noted that it would be self delusion to begin to think that the change that had brought the APC to power will sustain it forever, arguing that no political party can dominate the political scene forever as the only constant thing in life is change.
