PORT HARCOURT—The governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, has said that video clips which show the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, allegedly rigging last Saturday’s election were available.

He said the videos which clearly justify claims by his party that the elections were manipulated to favour the PDP were intact.

Dakuku maintained that the elections were marred by rigging.

He said: “We have evidence of the rigging process in Saturday’s election in video clips . It is incontrovertible that the election was marred with rigging.”

Meanwhile, about 2,000 female members of the APC, yesterday, protested on the ever busy Aba Road in Port Harcourt, calling for the cancellation of Saturday’s election.

The protesters were dispersed at Waterlines portion of the road by policemen who fired teargas into the air, thus preventing the protesters from getting to the office of  the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, about 500 meters away.

Meantime, a statement by the APC state Chairman,  Dr Davies Ikanya, called for  suspension  of the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Dame Gesilia Khan, accusing her of bias in the conduct of the elections.

He insisted that the state INEC boss should not be allowed to conduct the governorship and state House of Assembly elections.

He said: “The Rivers State Chapter of APC has demanded the immediate suspension of the State Resident Electoral Commissioner,  REC, Mrs. Khan, for colluding with the PDP to rig last weekend’s presidential and National Assembly elections in the state. For Mrs. Khan to have removed the INEC result sheets in all the polling units in the state with the intention of rigging the polls is a very serious offence. Mrs. Khan should not only be suspended but should not be allowed to conduct the April 11 governorship and state Assembly elections, as well as the Presidential and National Assembly elections when rescheduled.

“We are very convinced that if our case is thoroughly investigated, it will be confirmed that the State REC compromised her office and tarnished the good image of INEC.”

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Government has declared a curfew in the state.

The is from 7 p,m., to 6 p.m., till further notice.

A statement by the Secretary to the state government,  Mr.George Feyii, said the curfew commences with immediate effect.
