Boko Haram terrorist commanders surrender, as MNJTF troops recover ammunition

Two Boko Haram terrorist commanders have surrendered themselves to the troops of Sector 3 Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTF) Nigeria, marking a significant development in the ongoing efforts of the troops to restore peace in the Lake Chad region.

The Chief of Military Public Information, Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, in a statement, said Ibrahim Muhammed and Auwal Muhammed, alias Wanka, of the Boko Haram faction of Bakoura Buduma, surrendered on Monday, March 25, 2024.

He attributed the breakthrough to the intensified kinetic and non-kinetic operations targeting terrorist groups within Sector 3 MNJTF leading the two individuals who are active commanders operating in the Lake Chad Islands, to decide to surrender amid mounting pressure from ongoing military actions.

During the preliminary investigation, Lt. Col. Abdullahi said, the terrorists disclosed they had operated under the Bakoura Buduma-led faction for 15 years in Kwallaram, located in the Lake Chad Islands.

Ammunitions recovered from the surrendering terrorists includes one AK 47 rifle; 3 AK 47 rifle magazines; 90 rounds of 7.62mm special; one magazine carrier and one mobile phone belonging to Ibrahim Mohammed. Others are, one AK 47 riffle; five magazines, 101 rounds of 7.62 millimeter special; one mobile phone; one magazine carrier, two hand grenades and one handheld radio belonging to Auwal Mohammed Wanka.

The surrendered fighters are currently in custody for further investigation.
