The Training workshop for junior university professional administrators organized by the Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA) has ended on a good note with participants armed with new skills for university administration.
The 2day workshop which held at SSANU National Secretariat, Jabi, Abuja, on 24th - 25th August, 2023, with the theme: "Fundamentals of Skill Acquisition for the Next Generation of University Professional Administrators was well attended by university officials across the country.
In his welcome address, the national president of the association, Dr Victor Bem appreciated participants for turning up for the event despite the present economic constrain in the country. He premised the rationale for the training workshop on the need to ensure continuous professional development of members to sustain achievements of administrative efficiency even for the future university system. He said: "this is the reason why this particular training is aimed at equipping and preparing our current junior professional administrators for the task ahead."
Dr Bem went further to appreciate the resource persons for the training Programme, while urging participants, both physical and virtual to maximize the opportunity provided to build bridges and make meaningful connection.
Dr Bem also used the opportunity to appeal to University Vice Chancellors to be active in promoting ANUPA activities and ensure administrative efficiency.
The training workshop organized to groom junior university staff for global standard and challenges with experienced resource persons imparted new skills and requisite knowledge.
The registrar of the University of Ibadan, Mr G. O. Saliu, a resource person for the subtheme: Matching Global Pace in ICT: Nigerian University Administrators Concern for a Renaissance, harped on the imperative needs and roles information technologies are needed in university efficiency management. He urged participants to be updated in the latest IT skills which are a valuable tool to succeed in service delivery in our digital world.
Mr Ayo Ogunruku, former registrar of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife who handled the Sub theme "Human Resource Management and Capacity Building in Higher Educational Institutions in the Post COVID Era" trained participants on management skills obtainable in the 21st century university system.
Senior deputy registrar, (Senate) Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Okey Ikegbunam esq, took charge of the theme "X-raying the Architecture of Writing Minutes, Minuting, Circulars, Memos, Reports, Decision Excerpts and Briefs in the New Normal. He basically dealt on the work ethic which are very germane to effective administrative system.
Barr. Hauwa Temine, acting general manager, University of Jos Consultancy Ltd, Jos, imparted knowledge on the legal and administrative laws guiding University management which crystalized to the subtheme ; Interpretation and Application of the University Laws, Rules and Regulations, Condition's of Service, Career Structure, Scheme of Service, Standing Order, Statute and Ordinance in Daily Assignments: The Challenges Facing University Professional Administrators.
Mr Barnabas Terfa Hemba, deputy registrar/establishment officer, Benue State University, Makurdi, trained the participants on the subtheme : Functioning at the capacity of the institutional memory; the University administrative roles in governance through committee and panels.
The conference which was well attended with notable dignitaries had three Vice Chancellors in attendance who were honoured with an award for supporting and promoting ANUPA. Among the awrdees were Prof. Olayinka Karim, VC of Fountain University, Osogbo; Prof. Suleiman Mohammed, VC of Nasarawa State University, Keffi; while Prof. Kayode Adebowale, VC of the University of Ibadan attended as a special guest.
In an interview with CEOAFRICA, Prof Adebowale, VC of University of Ibadan expressed his deep joy for the organisers of the training workshop which he said is important to train and retrain staff for efficient administration. He commended further that workshop would offer participants opportunity for new experiences and knowledge sharing, some of which he said may not be available in the books. He advised university authorities, both in the academic and non-academic sectors to corporately work together to move the University forward.
Participants commended ANUPA for the training workshop. They said the training is necessary so that members can be part of growth. Stakeholders urged participants to go back to their respective Institutions to put the knowledge gathered into proper use.
The ANUPA 2023 training workshop ended on a good note, with participants rejoicing for the new administrative skills and knowledge gathered for efficient performance stating that they were adequately prepared to move to the next level.
