Renowned pharmacist, Olumide Akintayo receives CPAN Special Ambassador Award, newly appointed member of PSN Board

A past President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) and a renowned Pharmacist, Pharm. Olumide Akintayo, FPSN, FPCPharm, FNAPharm, FNIM, has been honoured with the award of Special Ambassador of the Clinical Pharmacists Association of Nigeria (SCPAN).

The award conferred on Akintayo at the recently held 2nd International Scientific Conference, Eko Akete 2024 of the association, was in recognition of his role towards the progress of CPAN and the advancement of clinical Pharmacy Practice in the country. National Chairman of CPAN, Dr. Joseph Madu appreciated the contributions of the 20th President of the PSN before the award was presented at the Dinner/Award Night held at NECA House Event Centre, Ikeja, Lagos.

Pharm. Olumide Akintayo was also recently appointed a member of the PSN Board of Trustees (BOT).

An alumnus of the University of Ife (Now OAU, Ile-Ife), Akintayo has served on the National Council of the PSN in various capacities and was first elected as a member of the NEC of the PSN in 1997 before becoming the President of PSN in 2012.

He was one of the pioneer students of the West Africa Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP) and one-time Secretary of the Faculty of Community Pharmacy of the College. He is a full and active member of the Nigeria Institute of Management since 2013. He became a pioneer fellow Nigeria Academy of Pharmacy (NAPharm) in 2014, and a Distinguished Fellow, Professional Excellence Foundation of Nigeria (DFPEFON) and FCIDA since 2015. He is also a Fellow, Nigerian Academy Of Pharmacy and Fellow, of the Civilian Institute of Democratic Administration.

The new CPAN awardee is the Chief Executive Officer of Togmed Ventures Ltd., Lagos and the Director, Nova International School, Ado Ekiti. He is also a Partner at Culbeat New Concept Ltd., Lagos Amongst several honours, the Pharmacy Practice & Health Management expert is a Fellow of the PSN and WAPCP. In 2011, he was nominated as one of 50 Nigerians of integrity, top professionals, and merit. He was also nominated as one the 50 ‘Icons of Great Ife’ In commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of O.A.U Ile-Ife by Vanguard Media Limited in 2012; nominated as one Of the Performing Presidents of Professional Bodies in 2013 by Guardian Newspaper.

Akintayo has over the years, served in many capacities in the following associations, Association Of Community Pharmacists Of Nigeria (ACPN), Pharmaceutical Society Of Nigeria (PSN), West Africa Post-Graduate College Of Pharmacists (WAPCP), Pharmacists’ Council Of Nigeria (PCN), Federal Ministry Of Health (FMOH), Joint Health Sector Unions/Assembly Of Healthcare Professional Associations (JOHESU/AHPA). Also, at the National Assembly, Ekiti State Government, and Lagos State Government.

At the National Assembly, he was the Lead Speaker between 2003 and 2023, PSN and JOHESU/AHPA on over 125 (one hundred and twenty-five) Bills covering Pharmacy and Health matters (more than 45 of these bills have become Acts of Parliament in Nigeria. He was also the Lead Protagonist in the Advocacy for a Drug Revolving Bill and the National Post-Graduate College of Pharmacy Bill 2022 (Pending in the National Assembly).
